Beyond lab tests, we do field testing on wood as well. Tests help to develop our wood and prepare for the most challenging of climates.
Rain and Humidity, that's Singapore.
In the corner of our factory, we test our wood through different treatments and let the weather put it to the test. In this photo, Accoya® from Netherlands and Teak from Myanmar are in the process of natural weathering. For example, the Teak wood slabs are treated individually and have turned into beautiful shades of colours.

Is it water resistant?
• Teak is considered to be water-resistant because it contains natural oils that safeguard them against moisture.
• Accoya® wood is an acetylated wood. Acetylation effectively changes the free hydroxyls within the wood into acetyl groups. When the free hydroxyl group is transformed into an acetyl group, the ability of the wood to absorb water is greatly reduced, rendering the wood more dimensionally stable and, because it is no longer digestible, extremely durable.

Singapore is the most humid country overall.
Wood never rests, always weathered by the rain, insects and humidity. The humid climate is a threat to wood, especially in Singapore with a mean annual relative humidity of 83.9% (credits to weather.gov.sg). If the surrounding air is about 80%-90%, the wood begins to go mouldy within a few months. However, Accoya® wood is guaranteed for 50 years above ground, 25 years in ground contact and freshwater immersion.
